Two years removed from the incidents that led to multiple NBA suspensions, Portland Trail Blazers guard Ja Morant says he’s ready for the conversation surrounding his career to change.
Morant pushed back against the perception that he carries a “bad guy” image, saying his past mistakes have already been addressed and that his recent actions should speak louder than old headlines.
“I’ve done what I’ve done in the past, but it’s been addressed and handled already. I don’t see why years later that’s still the topic when nothing’s happened since.”
The former All-NBA guard acknowledged his previous incidents but emphasized that he has moved forward and believes the continued focus on those incidents is no longer warranted. Morant’s comments reflect a player hoping to be judged by who he is today rather than the lowest moments of his career.
Now with the Trail Blazers, Morant is looking for a fresh start—one centered on basketball instead of controversy. If he continues to stay out of the headlines for the wrong reasons while producing at an elite level on the court, the narrative surrounding one of the NBA’s most electrifying guards may finally begin to shift.
